Seekseekqua (Mt Jefferson)- Woodpecker TH Saturday 6/27-Sunday 6/28

June 27 to June 28, 2026

Coordinator: Noel Tavan

Summit Altitude: 10497 feet
Elevation Gain: 7400 feet
Round-trip Distance: 16 miles

Permits have been secured.

When: Saturday 6/27-Sunday 6/28

What: Overview. Seekseekqua (Mt Jefferson) is the second highest peak in Oregon and because of its summit pinnacle requiring Class 4 scrambling on very steep, usually ice-encrusted rock, it is considered by some to be the most difficult of the higher volcanoes in the Cascades (above 10,000').

Who: If you want to join, please send me your climbing resume to Noel.Tavan@gmail.com. Priority will go to SAC members in good standing, organizers, assistant and climb school graduates with previous experience.

Experience Required:

Along with North Sister, Seekseekqua is known as hardest volcanoes to reach in the Cascades. Mount Jefferson is not a "hike" but a technical climb, requiring experience in steep snow/ice climbing, snow travel, and rock scrambling, including the use of crampons, ice axes, and ropes. Real good fitness is also a must for this 2 day climb.

Two day total trip

Saturday - hike/climb to base camp at ~7,500 feet.

Sunday - alpine start summit bid. Break camp hike out.
