Alpine Academy (Lecture): Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue (Part 1) Tuesday 6/2/26 (full waitlist open)June 2, 2026 Coordinator: Noel Tavan Excursion Time: 3 hours (car-to-car) When: Tuesday 6/2/26 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Where: SW Portland (near Zoo) - location will be shared with Participants What: This is meant to be a continuation of Mountain Climbing School. This is the 2nd lecture of the Snow & Ice series of indoor workshops geared towards teaching all the skills needed to climb outside, starting with top rope basics and working up to alpine multi-pitch ice climbing. We will be covering the following: -Identify the hazards of glaciers and be able to determine when a rope is required -Determine the best configuration of a rope based on team size and conditions -Review the different ways to travel with a team on a glacier -Know the first steps of crevasse rescue if someone is to fall in Who: Anyone who is interested in learning new skills to go climb safely outside, refreshing/reinforcing existing skills or wanting to help others by sharing their experience.
