SACsters,
Here's a belated trip report for SAC's successful Hood summit on Sunday morning, 6/15, via the standard south side route. Climbers included SAC guests Michael Harnew, Christian Butler, Mike Combelic, Tom Strauch, Aaron Schwindt, Peter Tuazon, Brent Hansen, and SACsters Doug Adair, Jeff Herd, Greg Swanson, and Kipp Bajaj.
Eleven climbers started from Timberline's Wy'East Lodge Climbers Cave ca. 10:45 pm, Saturday night, 6/14, under a starry night sky and a light breeze, and good snow conditions. Ten of us summitted ca. 5:30 am, Sunday, in three separate rope teams, after ascending a rather busy 'Old Chute' variation of the standard route. For seven climbers, it was their first time to stand at the very top of Oregon--Congratulations! We basked in the morning sunshine for about 45-minutes, snapping photos, some wanting to nap during this while, instead.
Our descent was even busier, as we negotiated our route from the summit back to the Hogsback, through a multitude of what seemed to be randomly organized climbing teams. Everyone returned to Timberline early that afternoon, safe and unscathe.
Kipp
