Hi SACsters,
New SAC member Mark Williams and I had a stunning Easter Sunday on Mt. Hood. For once, the weather forecast was absolutely accurate - following a stormy Saturday evening, we were promised a brief weather window. We left Timberline as the sky began to lighten and had a glorious, clear morning for our ascent. We took our time getting up high, opted for the so-called "Mazama" route above West Crater (Jeff Thomas in Oregon High calls it the "Old Chute"), summitted in brilliant sunshine, and managed to get down just as the front moved in and snow was beginning to fall. Although we only saw a few people up high, we were fortunate to get chocolate Easter eggs as summit treats from a nice couple from Seattle.
