Alpine Academy : Sport Anchors - Building

This is the first in a series of indoor workshops geared towards teaching all the skills needed to climb outside, starting with top rope basics and working up to alpine multi-pitch.

Week 1:

*Climbing basics recap: belay & rappel, commands, safety checks, knots

*Standard sport climbing anchors: how to build them, needed gear, pros and cons of each

*Intro to cleaning anchors

Equipment
Required Equipment (each participant): 1- Helmet, 1- Harness, 1- Belay/rappel device - tube-style, 1- Optional: Assisted braking device - GriGri, Pinch, etc., 1- carabiner - locking, 2- carabiners - non-locking, 2- prusiks or personal anchor system
Optional Equipment (each participant): Beer, a favourite wine in a round bottle, or your drink of choice, Sewn runners - single length, Sewn runners - double length, Webbing, Cordalette, Carabiners, Quickdraws, Anything you think could be used to build an anchor (good to practice with the gear you'll be using)
