Mt Hood Sunshine RouteMay 31 to June 1, 2025 Coordinator: Nicole Becker Summit Altitude: 11259 feet Elevation Gain: 5400 feet Round-trip Distance: 8 miles Excursion Time: 12 hours (car-to-car) This route follows a meandering path across the lower Eliot and Coe Glaciers on the northeast slope of Mt. Hood. Crevasse negotiation, self reliance and good route finding skills are needed. This will be a long "up and over" climb. After leaving some of the vehicles at Timberline Lodge, we will carpool to the trailhead at Tilly Jane SnoPark. We will hike from the trailhead to summit via the Sunshine Route, then descend the south side to our cars. Our route travels through extensive crevasse fields, and terrain up to 45 degrees. If I don't know you, please email me your climbing experience at nicolejbecker1@gmail.com. Please come prepared to climb as a group. That means you will have to slow down if you are faster than the average climber. This is a strenuous climb, a good level of fitness is required. Mt Hood is not a beginner climb - start with St. Helens in the spring or Mt. Adams. You should be familiar with fueling/nutrition for a 12hr+ activity and be familiar with your gear. Please email me your details and questions at nicolejbecker1@gmail.com or you are welcome to add it as a comment on this page.
