Hood Climb - South Route (half and full)

May 10 to May 11, 2025

Coordinator: Nicole Becker

Summit Altitude: 11259 feet
Elevation Gain: 5400 feet
Round-trip Distance: 8 miles
Excursion Time: 12 hours (car-to-car)

This is a full summit push. Tobiah has graciously volunteered to turn around at the top of Palmer or Devil's Kitchen for a "half climb" for those who don't feel ready for a full summit. This is a great option for those who are newer to glacier travel and want an opportunity to test gear and nutrition.

Climb school students are welcome and encouraged to join. I will prioritize this year's and last year's climb school graduates with prior glaciated experience (this is not a beginner climb - start with St. Helens in the spring or Mt. Adams or the half Hood). I will be accepting applications after climb school 2025 weekend. If you haven't climbed with me previously, please email me your climbing experience, when you graduated from climb school, and who your instructors were at nicolejbecker1@gmail.com.

We would meet at the Climber's cave Saturday May 10th, 2025 at 10:00PM (located at the entrance of the day use lodge). Park in the overflow lot. Assistant and Organizers welcome if they would like to help me lead this event.

Please come prepare to climb as a group. That means you will have to slow down if you are stronger than the average climber. Similarly, moderate to good level of fitness is required for this climb. You should have your nutrition dialed in. You should be familiar with your gear if you are attempting a full summit.

Please consider a Hood half climb before attempting a summit. This is a great conditioning hike to test out your gear (mountaineering boots, crampons, ice axe, backpack, layers etc...) as well as food intake and sleep deprivation.

AT skis and split boards are also welcome depending on how many folks are interested- let me know if you plan on using those. But you may be asked to stay with the group on the way down.

Feel free to email with any questions at nicolejbecker1@gmail.com or you are welcome to add it as a comment on this page.
