Navigation Clinic

February 9, 2020

Coordinator: Andy DeGregorio

Summit Altitude: 614 feet
Elevation Gain: 300 feet
Round-trip Distance: 3 miles
Excursion Time: 8 hours (car-to-car)

We met Sunday morning at Andy's house in SE Portland, where we went over the basics of map and compass work, and after doing some exercises forged out into the field. After one or two missed turns, we arrived at Powell Butte, one of the exciting formations of the Boring Lava Field. We meandered along a few miles of trail, testing our navigational skills, until a nice woman gave us directions to the top, where we boldly summitted in the name of SAC.

That was a good idea bringing the dogs in case you got stuck out there all night.
