Half Hood / Snow Skills

Summit Altitude: 8500 feet
Elevation Gain: 2500 feet
Round-trip Distance: 5 miles
Excursion Time: 5 hours (car-to-car)

This event is weather dependent. Plan for a half hood climb if the weather is clear. Touring equipment or snowshoes are acceptable. Will plan to meet in the timberline parking lot at 7 am. Plan will be to ascend to the top of the Palmar chair and practice snow skills there. If weather is poor, we will plan for a skills session at the white river snow park instead.

Team Equipment: 2 ropes, Pickets for those who do not have one, 2 Shovels, Anchor Cord, , , , , ,
Required Equipment (each participant): Day pack (~20-30L), Sunglasses, Sunscreen, Sun Hat/beanie, Warm gloves (and spares) - I like back-up mittens, Layering system, Mountaineering boots - crampons compatible, Crampons, Picket - if you have one, Floatation - snow shoes/touring equipment, Helmet - if touring, Water/Electrolyte (based on your preferences), Food, Headlamp (spare batteries), Toilet paper and blue bag / zip block, Personal Medical supplies, Ice axe, harness, , ,
Optional Equipment (each participant): trekking poles, belay device, 2 locking carabiners, 1 pulley or microtraxion , 2 non-locking carabiners, Prusik cords x 2, 1 Alpine draw (if you have it)
