Mt St HelensMay 12, 2019 Coordinator: Andy DeGregorio Summit Altitude: 8300 feet Elevation Gain: 5500 feet Round-trip Distance: 12 miles Excursion Time: 12 hours (car-to-car) We summited, in bright summery colors, including floral and fruity prints- the summit has always looked better, even on Mother's Day. We left the parking lot at 3:20am, made the rim before 8:20, beating most of the traffic and heat, and were back at the cars around noon, for a total time of about 9 hours. It was a madhouse, there were lines of people coming up as we glissaded down, and rangers or volunteers posted on almost every outcrop. At the parking lot they had beers for sale supporting the Mt St Helens institute, which we all became ardent supporters of for the afternoon. I've never had more fun on a more crowded climb. |
